  Life's Journey
Author:  George W. Jones
Editor:  Dan Hardison

For over twenty years, George W. Jones (1888-1952) was the beloved Episcopal priest at Epiphany Mission in Sherwood, Tennessee. Beginning in 1932, Father Jones published “The Booklet”, a quarterly report of the Mission activities. It was here that he would write about daily life in this small remote area of the Cumberland Mountains, the hardships of living through the Great Depression and World War II, and also include his inspirational and spiritual writings. Through his poems, stories, and letters he offered words of encouragement and inspiration. “Life’s Journey” is a collection of essays and poems by George W. Jones that appeared in issues of “The Booklet”. Also included is an essay on George W. Jones by Editor Dan Hardison and photographs that appeared in issues of the “The Booklet.”

  Epiphany Mission
By Dan Hardison

Founded in 1898, Epiphany Mission sits in a scenic valley of the Cumberland Mountains of Tennessee in the community of Sherwood twelve miles outside the University of the South at Sewanee. Well known for its walled garden built by the boys of the mission beginning in 1938, Epiphany has endured the Depression years, the Second World War, and a devastating fire in 1960. This is the history of Epiphany Mission including the loss of a triptych painted by artist Philip Perkins in the fire and its return in 2001. The booklet serves as a companion to the book Life's Journey: Collected Essays and Poems by George W. Jones, Epiphany's first priest.
