The poem was inspired by the writing of classmates in a journal kept by Rebecca Pettit in 1854/55 when they were students at the Columbia Female Institute – an Episcopal finishing school for girls that was located in Columbia, Tennessee. The video includes a page from the journal with a poem written by 17-year-old Naomi Hayes. Photos are from a 1920/21 Columbia Female Institute school annual.   Visual Preludes 2006

The Visual Preludes were created for worship services at the 2006 General Convention of the Episcopal Church held in Columbus Ohio. They are a series of nine exhibitions/videos 11 to 12 minutes in length featuring the work of 123 visual artists in the Episcopal community and created by Dan Hardison. The videos are set to music and are suitable for private viewing, group meditation, and liturgical settings.
